artists

Flash Virtual Residency have a privilege to host six artists around the world. These artist are coming with different backgrounds and it is interesting to see what happens in this somewhat pilot  residency project in pandemic times with their practices and way to develop their art pieces in this international and instant community.

Here are the artists in alphabetical order:

Zsófia Lévai (HUN)

"In this era we exist between online and offline spaces and seek to find a balance between the two. Now because of Covid we are experiencing an even more extreme version of this duality. When we walk outside we see human bodies with covered faces, whereas on our computers at home we see screen-faces without physical bodies. We see just a specific crop from other human beings. Like contemplating different pieces of the human puzzle."

Elisa Hillgen (FIN)

"I'm very interested in this residency, since I'm a bit stuck with these two ideas and I need a small push to move forward with them. I'm hoping this online co-work and curating would help me go further and all kind of feedback is very welcome. Also would be amazing to hear and comment on other artists ideas too. Maybe this would create new co-operation in future."

Luca Salas Bassani Antivari (MX)

"This project seeks to observe the weather of sunlight in our built habitat. Identify the subtle changes that accompany us every day through the intervention of the spaces that we occupy. Recognize the characteristics housed in these spaces and share moments of observation of it."

Leda Vaneva (BG/FIN)

"In my practice I have been dealing with questions around perceptions and reality, what reality could be, how it could be formed, what alternatives it might potentially have. Those are inevitably linked to the topic of space, which is strongly connected to the theme of the residency. Presence/absence can only happen in the existence of a space, real or fictional. The chosen medium being video implies the presence of a viewer. This is the angle I would start from."

Tuomas Tuomiranta (FIN)

"For the Absence & Presence residency I would have an idea to develop my current project called Pulsar that is still work on progress. The work is a projected light art installation, generative animation where colored light arcs change their colours in different tempos, which creates evolving pulse like feeling. The installation is planned to be projected on a wall so that the image is bounded by a partly reflective floor that extends the animation downwards via reflection. I am developing different colour themes and rhythms to make the work more versatile and coherent. On the residency I would be interested to develop the conceptual idea of the work, reflecting to the three themes, and to make a new prototype that can be presented on the final website of the residency."

Victoria Volokitina (RUS)

"My target for this residence is to explore the dichotomy of absence and presence by drawing art pieces in virtual reality. I want to highlight the artists' discussion in a new way of digital drawing by a combination of Oculus Quest hardware and Tilt Brush software. I want to share animated 3D art with FLASH community in the end of residence to make it a new point of discussion of our perceptions about the past and the future."
